Memorial Day is “stark reminder” of police danger
NATIONAL Police Memorial Day is a “stark reminder” of the dangers of policing, the Chairman of Northumbria Police Federation has said.
More than 1,200 police officers of all ranks, politicians and families of fallen officers attended the 12th annual service of remembrance in Edinburgh on 27 September. Gordon Armstrong, of Northumbria Police Federation, said: “It is a sombre day as we remember police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.”
Mr Armstrong added: “We will join with families, colleagues and friends of those who have died on duty.
“I am immensely proud to represent Northumbria Police Federation in commemoration of our fallen colleagues.
“This is a special day for all involved and is a stark reminder of the dangerous nature of policing as we go about our business protecting local communities.”
Steve White, Chairman of the Police Federation of England and Wales, said: “We are proud to support National Police Memorial Day, which is a significant day of remembrance for the police family and the public we serve. We will never forget our fallen colleagues and their dedication to duty.”
